Cloud PBX: Telephone system for professional organizations

Nowadays, communication is one of the most important factors for business success or achieving goals in the government sector. In terms of communication, more and more organisations have turned their attention to and adopted Cloud technology. “Cloud” is an abbreviation for “cloud computing” or the leasing of software, systems and resources of the host’s computer capacity over an internet network without the need for direct investment in hardware and software for the entire system and without having to set up a network system yourself. This results in significant cost savings while the system will continue to be upgraded by the host [1]. The cloud can be divided into following 4 types [2]:

  1. Public cloud: A cloud service that companies can rent. It is convenient and easy and widely available such as Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, etc.
  2. Private cloud is a cloud system developed by an organisation that owns it. This leads to a higher level of security, but also to higher costs and development difficulties.
  3. Hybrid cloud combines the characteristics of two types of cloud mentioned above, as a public cloud is more efficient due to expert developments, while the private cloud is more secure due to its sole purpose of data storage.
  4. Multi-cloud is a combination of clouds as opposed to hybrid cloud which is shared between a private cloud and the host’s cloud.

Due to its many advantages, cloud is also used for office telephone systems. This technology is called “Cloud PBX” and nowadays both public and private agencies have shown interest and widely adopted this system.

Cloud PBX: More capacity instead of just convenience

Cloud PBX is a telephone system that is used both inside and outside of an organisation. It is a system that is an extension of the PBX system or Private Branch Exchange. This system offers many benefits, be it improved performance over the previous system, reduced complications in system maintenance, convenience, speed and availability 24/7 at any location, and 65% cost savings compared to the systems from PBX.

Advantage

Cloud PBX

PBX

Investment

Host invests in the system

User invests in the system

Expense

Cloud PBX rental only

Various expenses such as equipment cost or IT maintenance cost

Redundancy maintenance

The host constantly updates the system with a redundancy system provided.

Require investment in system update and in redundancy system

System usage

The system can be used anywhere via the internet. If there are many branches, there is no need for multiple PBXs investment as it can be used through the same Cloud PBX.

The system usage must be through the PBX system at the office. The same system cannot be used elsewhere. If there are many branches, a PBX investment for every one is required     .

In addition to the above benefits, the convenience of cloud PBX is another motivation for higher adoption by companies. In the past, the PBX system could only be connected to the company phone as it is a private connection. This leads to limited access to the system. If a company has multiple branches, it has to invest in phones in every branch. However, cloud PBX works through the cloud system making, which makes the connection very flexible. Users can already use the system if they have an internet network. It can also be used through other communication devices such as tablets, smartphones, PCs, etc. The system therefore allows users to benefit from the system anytime and anywhere.

The question is what type of organisation or department is suitable for using the cloud PBX. The factors that drive organisations to use cloud PBX for office phones are as follows:

  1. Organisations that need a good phone system without making a costly investment in installing phone systems
  2. Organisations that want to reduce the maintenance issues of traditional telephone systems by having a team of experts.
  3. Organisations that want to improve their business credibility and corporate image.
  4. Organisations that require 02 landline numbers or landline numbers in different provinces and autoresponders.
  5. Modern organisation that are flexible in terms of time and location of work but also need a robust internal and external telephone system

National Telecom Public Company Limited (NT) is the result of the merger of TOT and CAT, two companies with more than 65 years of experience and expertise in telecommunications. Both TOT and CAT offer cloud services PBX that agencies or organisations can choose from depending on their requirements and include standard and premium features. The details are as follows:

Thank you to the expertise and qualified teams, many organisations entrust NT to take care of the Cloud PBX system, such as the Prot Pittayapayat School in Bangkok, which serves more than 2,900 students. As it is a large school, both internal and external communication is important, especially internal communication which requires quick responses. Mr Piyapong Krawenkij, Deputy Director General of Prot Pittayapayat School, said:

“In the past, our school used a traditional phone system with a central number and a wired system for the internal phones, which is cumbersome and causes bottlenecks. However, the school has recently moved to using IP Phone VPBX services from NT, which provides a call forwarding system via a cloud system by connecting to the internet via a leased line that NT also provides. As a result, calling and routing internal calls is now more convenient and, most importantly, costs are significantly reduced.”

With a wide range of services, NT is a government-owned company that has been continuously contracted by both government and private organisations, especially government agencies with complicated work systems and budgets. NT therefore provides diligent customer service.
